Tromba d’Aria

Bogliasco is a small town in the Italian Riviera where I did an artist residency in the fall of 2016. During the first week there was a tornado. Fortunately, no one in the town was hurt, but some trees were uprooted and some stone walls destroyed. Walking around the next morning I experienced the most gorgeous bouquet of salt air, torn petals, pine sap, and upturned earth. There was the scent of tiny white mushrooms, moss, and a sage-like floral, like the rose of Morocco, in the wind. In Italian the word for “tornado” is tromba d’aria, literally a “trumpet of air.” As I made this scent I heard the sudden winds whipping the sea and gardens into a fragrant song. TROMBA D’ARIA is COMING SOON!
