My composer friend Richard Festinger gave me a violin solo called “Portrait” and asked me to translate it into a perfume. I played the solo on repeat for days and sniffed through my nose organ (a perfumer’s shelf of aromatic solutions) until I found the materials that felt exactly right. There was a deep resonant note in the composition that chimed with smoky birch tar and oud wood. Midway through, the piece was punctuated by a high, nervy note that felt like the musical equivalent of a tomato leaf. I gave the perfume a heart of rainy soil and and iris root to capture the soul of the solo, which was impressively both earthy and bright. PORTRAIT edp is COMING SOON!
